Meet Sanford (Sandy) Rosenthal

Candidate for Pima County Sheriff

A Tucson native, Sandy Rosenthal's roots run deep in the community where he was born at St. Mary's Hospital. Sandy is a family man, having been happily married to Susan Rosenthal for 39 years. Together, they raised two sons in Tucson, both of whom have blessed Sandy and Susan with two beloved granddaughters.

Sandy's commitment to community extends beyond his family. He served as the Treasurer for the Catalina Foothills High School Boys Basketball team, demonstrating his passion for youth development. He also generously devoted his time to organizations like the American Cancer Society and Special Olympics, showcasing his unwavering dedication to the betterment of society. Additionally, Sandy served as the former Vice President of his Homeowners Association Board, reflecting his leadership and problem-solving skills in various settings.

While his professional career was marked by significant accomplishments and certifications in law enforcement, Sandy's commitment to his family and his community through volunteering truly highlights his admirable character and dedication to making a positive impact on the lives of those around him.

  • LEADERSHIP
    Developed and implemented Regional SWAT Team, Regional Paramedic Team, Emergency Vehicle Traffic Preemption, and Two County Ordinances: Blasting and Special Events (Bike Racing). Served as Pima County Sheriff's Department representative to the RAC/Homeland Security, facilitated Green Valley's Prescription Drug Disposal Program, and chaired Fleet Enhancement Committee. Facilities Chairman for the American Cancer Society. The aforementioned leadership roles trained me to be able to work with diverse groups of people, and will support my role as the Sheriff.

    Demonstrated effective public relations while a District, SWAT, Crimes Against Family and Property, and Staff Services Commander. I used my training as a leader in the above roles to be decisive in staffing, public relations, appointment of volunteer positions, hostage negotiations, investigations, and personnel matters.     Guest Speaker: High School Anti-Drug Programs, Crime Prevention, Rotary International, Lions Club, Radio Talk Show Host. Able to communicate interest, motivation, disciplinary actions and information when appropriate with groups and individuals.
  • WRITTEN COMMUNICATION SKILLS
    Skilled grant writer, (grants frequently funded), and newsletter author. Composed Written Discipline (Special Observation Plans, Letters of Counseling, Letters of Reprimand, Letters of Termination), and versed in writing Commendations, and District Policy and Procedure. These writing skills have prepared me to convey appropriate messages as the Sheriff.
  • RESPONSIBILITY AND DEPENDABILITY
    Represented the Sheriff at RAC Meetings. Created a plan to facilitate the safe disposal of Narcotic Drugs for Green Valley Prescription Program. Organized the first Pima Regional SWAT Team. Collaborated with Police and Fire Chiefs to create a Regional Emergency Vehicle Preemption Traffic Program. Served as Fleet Enhancement Chairman and directed testing and evaluation of new law enforcement equipment. Accountable as District Commander for community safety, scheduling of officers, management of budget, and personnel matters. Charged as SWAT Commander for ensuring proper training to avoid loss of life or injury to the public and officers. Managed investigations while a CID Commander. Ensured training of all staff, and proper employee documentation while Commander of Staff Services/Human Resources. Being educated in so many venues of the Department has trained me to be the Sheriff.

    Team player who has served in many different positions and districts to support the operations of the Sheriff's Department.   • INITIATIVE AND INNOVATION
    Collaborated with Point Blank, Body Armorer, to design the first shoulder protection for a tactical vest. Wrote a proposal, developed the purchase plan, and instructed deputies on the use of Emergency Vehicle Traffic Preemption. Launched a Retirement Seminar for all three retirement systems. Initiated training for the Corrections Staff during Daily Briefings, and developed a SWAT Paramedic Program.
